Avast Antivirus in XP Mode

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit, and using XP Mode. Have been using MSE until recently, when it began giving me indications that it cannot update. When I download the manual update file, it says it is not a valid Win32 application. I rarely use XP Mode to go online (in fact, about all I've done with it online in the past couple of years is update MSE), so I don't need to pay for top of the line AV software. I've been looking at the free Avast Antivirus as a possible replacement for MSE in XP Mode. Does anyone have any experience in using the Avast AV program in Windows XP Mode?

Avast antivirus
I recently ran a scan with my Avast anti virus program. Several Threats found came up in the results. There we're options to delete or isolate them. I tried both but nothing happened. How do I get rid of these viruses for good? Thanks. Hal. __________________
