Windows 7: XP Mode Virtual Machine Installation Just Stops

XP Mode Virtual Machine Installation Just Stops

I'm pulling my hair out over this one.

I have run the Win7 VM for a number of years, and last week it just crashed (got the BSOD) and refused to start. It says it's in "powered down" state. I would try to start it, it would begin, get about 1/3 way through startup and then the progress bar just disappears as it stops; no message, nothing.

I found my .vhd file and was able to mount it and copy a couple programs out of it that I use with no trouble, but could not find anyway to make this work anymore.

So, I uninstalled the VM, deleted the c:/users/name/appdata/local/microsoft/virtual machine folder and everything in it, downloaded the VM again and installed.

So far, everything looked good.

Then, I went to the menu to run the VM/XP, it began by asking for a password, and then said it will begin installing with the normal installation screen. 10 seconds in it just disappears and nothing! Tried it again, same thing.

I don't have a clue as to what to do to get this installed any longer. Has anyone experienced this and been able to resolve it? Suggestions?

Thank you.
