Modify vmware machine and use it on another host

    Hello guys,

My experience with vmware is very limited. I have downloaded vmware converter and vmware player (free editions for on commercial use). My main motivation is the following:
I have one rather old win xp computer that is running very important software. Lately machine reboots frequently with bsod. I have noticed blown capacitors on motherboard, so the end is very near. It is veryhard these days to buy new hw that is compatible with xp, so i decided to buy new desktop computer with win 7 or win 10 64 bit and to use vmware. I have performed first step and made virtual machine by converting physical machine to virtual. I have now virtual win xp machine. When trying this on new machine in vmware player I have noticed that display drivers are recognized and there are one or two more exclamation marks in device manager. I know that I need to install vmware tools to correct this. However this new machine has no internet connection.

    My question is the following:
Can I install vmware player on third machine with internet connection, run virtual xp machine, download and install vmware tools and then transfer virtual machinefiles and use it back on second machine?

Does it make a difference if third machine has win 10 and second machine win10? I know that vmware tools are installed on the guest (xp) machine so I expect this simple moving to another machine would be Ok.

One perposeof virtual pcs is you can take the image onto any pc and it should work as it uses all virtual drivers. But why cant you copy the software via usb or cd?

I have downloaded vmware tools separarely as installation file, but from some reason cannot install it on fuest machine from usb. I guess it is because I need vmware tools specifically for win xp. I noticed on another machine that all I need to do is to use option install vmware tools from the menu in vmware player. In that case correct tools are downloaded from the internet and installed.
