[1] When you say frozen as a rock, do you mean it is stuck on Checking for Windows Updates . . .?
[2] Other than this problem have you got Internet access?
[3] Could it be something to with a Firewall or Proxy Server?
[4] Are there any ERROR messages?

Besides, why are you getting updates? Is there anything that a specific update fixes?

I totally agree with Alejandro85.

[1] Letting M$ WU update your OS involves many hours of downloading, installing and re-booting. A far easier, quicker and smoother way to update your OS is to use either DISM++ or SIMPLIX. In your particular case, SIMPLIX will be the one to use!

[2] You only really need to download and install an update[s] if you are having problems and the update will correct it or fix it. I say that, but as you have probably seen in many of the posts on this forum, installing some WU's can cause problems to the OS.
