Hi,

If anybody is still using Virtual XP, can you reproduce this fault?

If I create a desktop shortcut in Virtual XP to a folder or file on my data drive, it works fine until I shut down and restart XP. After that, the shortcut does nothing, and when I look at it, the target field is blank. Happens even if I mark the shortcut as Read Only. Accessing the data drive via MyComputer and browsing manually to the files and folders I want always works fine, so do shortcuts to the XP system drive. My guess is that it's something going wrong with the \\tsclient\ thing that appears in all pathnames except for the XP system drive.

This problem happens even after a clean install of Virtual XP. In fact an XP image I've been using recently behaves itself slightly better than a clean install does, the only problem with desktop shortcuts being that if I start Virtual XP after working in the Win7 host for a while, the shortcuts often don't work, though they're never altered and rebooting the computer always solves the problem. I'd been thinking it was some corruption the VM had picked up over the couple of years I've been using it, but like I say, it turned out to be worse after a clean install, so I'm beginning to think it's an inherent bug in the VM itself. The installer file is a genuine one I downloaded from Microsoft in the days before they decided to remove it, and this is the only issue I've noticed with it.
