I have a few questions I could add here that are bound to come up sooner or later.

1)With integration enabled buring data to removable media remains a problem in the XP Mode while printer support and access to usb devices is seen in the final version. The floppy and dvd drive items seen on other VMs and custom installs to vhd remain unavailable however.

2)Visual capabilities already touched on a little is any way to enhance the virtual video card memory. Sound takes a back seat secondary role for things like multimedia and addon devices like tuner cards being unavailable while sound is still heard through the host OS.

3)IE security concerns since cooecting online while in the XP Mode is readily available. Despite being in a virtaul machine the integrated components still allows support for access to internal drives where virues and other malwares could end up being transfered over.

4)One other odd question to add here would running an emulator like DOSBox on the XP Mode for even older legacy 9x-ME type apps. When going to mount C through DOSBox as well as a program's folder no results are seen while the Dos window appears as that would.

    Three questions:

1- Why did Microsoft chose to not support USB virtualization? This is inconsistent with Virtual PC and most hypervisor products.

2- Any plans to expand on Linux Integration to support additional guest Linux operating systems? It was great to see Microsoft submit source code for the Hyper-V Linux Integration Components to the Linux Kernel Community under GPL v2 but I haven't seen any benefits from it.

3- Similar to the previous questions. Does Microsoft have plans to work with any additional open source organizations for native integration with Hyper-V? I'd love to see OpenBSD\FreeBSD drivers and integration services.

    Hi! ^_^

    My questions are:

    1. Why the MIDI synthesizer selector in Audio and Sound Devices is disabled? (by the way: more like "ripped-off" than "disabled" ).
    2. Is there any way to get that option back in the future?

    Thank you. :)

    Hi Microsofties,

Ive always heard about the problems between compatibility and features with each new Windows release and I know every Windows developer has at some stage come across a bug or problem with the various Win32 Apis and undocumented interfaces like IID_IListView that are quite problematic to diagnose and resolve with good code.

Windows needs a refreshed and updated API set with a redesigned system layout that greatly reflects the other enhancements made like with 64bit development, I'm not sure about the development direction with the Windows client and Virtualization here but 64bit Windows calling its kernel, kernel32 and keeping its 64bit library's in Windows\System32 with 32bit compatibility library's in \Windows\SysWOW64 added with various redirection and virtualization taking place can be an enormous problem at times during and after development.

This shouldn't be maintained for yet another Windows release and potentially until 2025 or beyond with a 10-15 Year support life-cycle, especially with no ability for the user or developer to remove these subsystems. Virtualization like XP-mode and hypervisors seem well suited for coming to the rescue and solving these various compatibility hacks and handling that requirement as evident with XP-Mode, Are there plans with Windows 8 to include a new Windows Feature or similar that can allow users to completely remove the compatibility and x86 subsystem hacks on 64bit Windows when XP-Mode or a Hypervisor is installed?

Is Virtual PC 2007 going to get a Service Pack 2 to support:

    • Windows 7 as a Guest OS?
    • Windows 7 as a Host OS?

Virtual PC 2007 runs on Windows 7, but it doesn't like shared folders when the guest is Windows 7.

I know this is a little late, but yes - Download Windows XP Mode. I'm using it as we speak. Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Yes I know this is the download for XP Mode, but you can also download Virtual PC from there as well since XP Mode uses it. Once you select your OS, the download link will pop up

The bigger question (for those wondering) Is can your PC run Virtual PC? Windows Virtual PC: Configure BIOS

FYI - Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

    VMWare 2.0.2

I have been using VMWare since I discovered there was a VHD file size limit on Virtual PC.

I have Vista Ultimate x64 and Ubuntu running in VM's under Windows 7 Pro x64.

I love the ability to copy my VM's to another folder/disk to run tests.

I would like to mount my host's backup system image vhd-file as a second hard disk in my Virtual PC Vista virtual machine, to be able to extract single files when needed. However, my system image is huge, ATM some 220+ GB, and because of 127B size limit I am not able to this.

Is there a way to use bigger than 127GB virtual disks?
