Possible to use XPM product key non-virtually?

I was wondering if it was possible use my XPM product key in my old laptop since I don't really need XPM in Windows 7. When I called Microsoft, they said it was legal to use the XPM product key in systems other than Virtual PC. And a quick search shows that you can convert VHD to ISO. But it's known that you can't use the XPM product key in a fresh XP install.

Has anybody got this to work or should I not even try? Or should I try and report back if it's possible?

The question is are you able to install this ISO outside Windows 7 VPC. As for the product key, not sure about your XPM product key, but mine only has 20 digits and don't they come in 5x5 = 25 digits?.

Heck my second set of 5 digit is "OEM" lol.

My XPM product key has 25 digits and since the OS is already installed in the XPM, there should be a way to get it to work. The problem is going from VHD to ISO, burning the ISO, then getting it installed on a HDD.

I don't need to throw away my old-ass laptop anymore if I can get this to work, but I'm actually more curious than anything...

Hang on, your "XPM XP", is this the one that comes free with w7 VPC or is it an actual/real XP that you have installed on your VPC XPM?

Weird cos i wouldve thought XPM XP is only allowed to be used with Windows VPC (W7 even). That said i'm not sure if it'll still work if you use the key on a non XPM XP OS version.

You're right, if the hardware is different, it won't work.
