Virtual usb serial ports XP Mode? 64 bit

Ok, use of com ports possible in XPM or with published programs? So far no luck. Installed drivers when I attached to port, shows up in XP as com 3, but the program that sends/receives data is unable to connect to port in XP or in windows 7.

Given usual windows expectations, didn't think this would actually work. Of course not! Paid the 89 to upgrade to seven pro anyways. So the program now works in windows 7, but I can't use it to connect to anything.. Upgrading to something useful that actually runs properly in 7 is at minimum another $500... This is the primary reason/use for the computer to begin with.. But need the extra ram as well for CNC/3D cad/cam programming..

Any successes for anyone else?

Ok, somehow it looks like it started working at least in XP. However, when it's used as a published program to windows 7 the drivers automatically detach when xp mode closes, so seamless integration is not possible by design.

Strange though, sometimes it appears all 8 of the ports don't always show up in xp to attach to, (only 4) and sometimes rebooting xp makes them show up again. Weird..

I wonder if this has something to do with seven hibernating? I may have to disable that and see..

Need to do more testing to see if the data transfers are reliable via the virtual scenario.

Sorry to blame the hardware on this one, but I've had USB serial devices working with some pretty old software (getting data out of a 10 year old scuba diving watch with a serial-only interface ) . So there is no reason why if the app works under Win7 it shouldn't be able to communicate.
If the serial ports work under Win7 you should just be able to go to VM settings and say Com1 is connected to this port and Com2 is connected to that port - but the VM only sees two emulated Com ports.

It sounds like you are plugging in a USB multi-port device and mapping it through to the VM and it is then misbehaving there AND not working in the host OS there's not a lot I can say.
As I said in another thread - I've tested this with a Bluetooth emulated COM port and that passed through to a hyperTerm in an XP mode VM so there is no requirement for a "standard" com port.

Hmm, interesting.. Deciced to go with a mulitport pci express instead, hoping that might work better than a usb, so I will see how that goes. Wondering if it can be installed in the virtual world. I already asked that in another post to the visualization team so I have to check right now to see if it's been addressed..
