XP Mode Install corruption?
Hi,
I'm trying to install the Windows XP Mode feature of Windows 7 (Using Ultimate 32 bit) and it's been causing me no end of problems. I've run the intel check to make sure the processor is capable of virtualization, which it is and then run through the install as explained by Microsoft.
Firstly I installed the Windows XP Mode package which was fine. I then run the Windows Virtual PC update which appears to install and configure fine. However, after the system reboot, I log back in and I'm presented with a black screen and windows cursor. It appears that explorer does not want to start. Looking in task manager, the process is not there and I can't manually get it to run either. The same happens in Safe Mode and I also can't restore back to last known good.
The only way I can get the laptop back is to do a system restore to the point before I installed the above patch.
The event logs aren't showing any problems either. Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this? I really need the XP Mode running as I need to try and get a VPN client working on it.
Thanks
Paul
