Can XP Virt Mode be in 32bit if Win7 is 64 ???

    Hello all

I recently installed Windows 7 Ult 64 bit on my machine and its working fine.

For most all of my programs I had on my XP system, which was 32 bit, I have been able to reinstall an use them.

But apparently my old version of AutoCadLt97 is a 16bit program an when I try to install it, before the install will even run, it comes up an tells me that its a 16bit program and is not compatible with a 64bit OS.

All in all if this was a program that I used a lot or wasn't to expense to buy a new version of, I would get a new one but even the LT versions go for around $800 to $1,000 so that's kind of not a option.

So I was just reading the tutorial on the virtual XP mode thing and was just wondering if I could run that in 32bit on a 64bit Win7 system and then this might allow me to get my AutoCAD program running again.

    So is this possible?

    Thanks for any help.

The short answer is yes. You can virtualize a 32 bit XP installation to get access to your 16 bit programs.

All Virtual PC virtual machines, including XP Mode, are always 32-bit. You can not install and run a 64-bit virtual machine in Virtual PC.
