Hi,

I think I have just got an updated version of the Beta. I had read earlier in the year that the final version was set for release on Sep 1. I have just used a restore point and removed it. It could not be removed by control panel.
This is a great forum.
Thanks all.

The impact of SP1 on the Windows 7 client operating system is considered to be minimal. Included changes are expected to address minor usability issues in specific scenarios, as outlined in this document. Microsoft recommends that organizations do not need to wait for SP1 to begin receiving the value of Windows 7 today as we don’t anticipate the SP1 for Windows 7 to be substantial.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta will help you:

According to the official Microsoft page Service Pack Center - Microsoft Windows, it states that SP1 for Windows 7 is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2011.

If it doesn't have many major improvements, then why release it? Personally, I would like to see Microsoft add some major improvements before releasing a service pack.

I've been using SP1 since it was first available. It's updates normally and has had very little impact on speed. There has been no reported problems (that I know of).

After a year they have to roll up the Hotfixes/Updates into a Service Pack or they become too numerous to manage on new installs,

plus by then some of them are deemed by MS to be critical to the OS functioning correctly and safely and thus cannot be left to the whims of whether one installs Updates or not.

The service pack is not coming out until mid 2011. Everything being discussed here is a beta or preview.
