Updates already installed keep reinstalling on shutdown

Every time Windows Updates installs a new updates, it continues to show that same update as available for install and will reinstall it on shutdown. As a result, my update history consists of the same updates installed again and again.

How can I fix this so that once a new update is installed W7 no longer tries to reinstall it?

    Thanks
    Simon

If you boot in safe mode with networking it might work as it'll be connected to the net

Don't know for certain, never tried it lol

Try yourself this advice and describe results!I told you it's impossible to install update even from Microsoft Download Center , these ones from Microsoft Download Center also required working Windows Update service - safe mode with networking make no differnce!

Well, the reason is probably that the windows installer service is not running in safe mode. But that can be changed with a simple registry tweak.

Anything else there Flavius which prevents updates from being installed in safe mode?

I don't know. I know the only exceptions are service packs from Microsoft Dwonload Center -you can install them in safe mode too -strange.

What is the difference between Safe mode/Safe mode with networking if you have already downloaded updates from Microsoft Download Center in your opinion?
