Updates fail due to insuffcient rights
I've been having an issue with software updates in Windows 7 on one of my Windows 7 PCs. This might be the wrong forum, becuse I think it is a rights issue, but it manifests itself on updates, so...
Some Windows 7 updates and all of my Adobe Reader and Itunes software updates fail to install because they do not have the proper level of access to the folders required. Every time I have this issue, I run the Take ownership on teh folders that cause dthe issue and try again. Sometimes this takes several attempts until I get all of the necessary folders. Eventually, I either get it to work or fail miserably and have to jump through hoops to remove the software (Adobe & Apple) and re-install it from scratch, which generally works as long as I can remove the software or manually tweak the registry successfully.
I've also noticesd that I can't create IE favorites through IE. I have to copy the address and navigate through Windows Explorer and create a new shortcut that way.
Can anyone help me figure out what went wrong? Why do I not have admin rights required? Why does Take Ownership give me the rights I need only temporarily?
