Would it hurt not to install an important update if the program is not used?

I do not use anything "Live", but have it installed.

Does this leave me vulnerable if I don't?

    Used as reference:
    Windows Live Essentials 2011 (KB2434419)

No, it won't hurt anything. I don't use IE, so I don't install any of the "Important security updates"

Same here. That's why I never use auto updates. I want to see what is being installed.

I didn't and won't install it. Don't need it and found no security references. That is why it is optional.
    It also installs Bing!

I just selected to hide it so it won't bug me in the future.

    Hope that helps.
