    Changing Product ID

    Hi,

My problem is that I bought a lap-top with windows 7 in it. But after 30 days of usage, the operating system expired. I didn't know back than but I could have activated the operating system with the product key at the back of the computer. So, I found another trial version and installed it. And I did that several times because they were all trial versions. But I just learned that I did actually bought the windows 7 with my computer and that I could activate it with the product key on the back of my computer. but the problem is that I didn't get a recovery cd or something like that for the operating system when I bought my computer (btw, I did get a recovery cd for windows vista in the previous computer and I was able to reinstall it whenever I wanted). So I lost the the initial operating system in my computer, the one with which I bought my computer because of the installation of other trial versions and I don't have a cd with which I can regain it.

On the other hand, in the back of the computer, on the labeling of windows, a product ID is written just above the product key. And I'm thinking that if I could change the product ID of a trial version to the product ID of the previously lost original windows 7 to which the product key corresponds, I could enter the product key and activate the trial version that I'm using. First of all, I ask if that's a logical and possible operation and secondly "how to do it".

Thank you in advance for your helps.

No OEM computers (computers with win7 preloaded and preactivated) come with trial version of win7. So your story is hard to believe.

If right now your computer has the SAME version installed that it ORIGINALLY came with AND the COA sticker has the SAME version written on it, you can try activating online by inputting the key on the sticker (this method works SOMETIMES). Or you can call MS and do a phone activation.

    Activate Windows 7 by Phone

And dont bother with that product id, it wont help.

Actually, you are right, I said that it expired in order not to complicate my problem. To tell the truth, I was a little confused when I bought it and I THOUGHT that it was a trial. So I found a crack version of windows 7 for which I was promised that there is no expiration (but there was), and I installed that by deleting the original windows 7.

And now I'm trying to recover that operating system that I paid for and deleted to my stupidity :)

So, my computer doesn't have the SAME version installed that it ORIGINALLY came with (because as I said, I formatted my computer in order to install crack version)

At the second reading, you are talking about the same VERSION, not the same PRODUCT with same product id and key.

but I don't understand what you say with "if the COA sticker has the SAME version written on it".

How can I find out which version does my Certificate of Authenticity refers and which version I'm using or where to find the exact same version?

Since you installed the trial on your computer, you should know what version it is (whether home premium or pro or ultimate etc.), if you dont, click on start orb, then type winver in the run or search box, that'll tell you what version is installed.

The COA sticker is a rainbow coloured sticker at the back of OEM computers which bears the name of the version (E.g. Windows 7 home premium) and the COA key.

What brand is your computer and where did you buy it from?

It's an LG R560. I bought it in Turkey from Media Markt.

And I tried to type my product key to a trial windows 7 with the same version. But it didn't work. So the phone activation can help me ?

Right. Does it have a COA sticker at the back? If yes, what version of win7 does it say? If its not win7, what else does it say?

actually it makes more than a year that I bought it and I can't read all information. Some are wore.

    what I can read is
    proof of licence
    certificate of authenticity

    Microsoft
    2005 Microsoft Corporation

    (product id)
    (barcode)
    (product key)

    How to Tell

Label not to be sold separately

    X15 - 53889 (don't know what it is)

You need to remember what version it came with, otherwise you cant be helped.

I suspect you got taken for a ride with a trial version of win7. I dont whether you actually paid for the win7 that came with that computer.

Does your computer have a recovery partition? Click Start, then type diskmgmt.msc, post a snip of that window here.

I'm pretty sure that there isn't a recovery partition. I've annexed the disk management table.

I'm almost certain that the version I got with my computer was "32 bit - home premium"
