    Windows update will not start

    Hey there,

I'm new here and have a big problem, which me took much days trying to solve. I have a HP Notebook with windows 7 64bit. Everything seems to work fine, till i wanted to install my Ipod in Itunes. When I open Itunes I get the message: The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other burning software. Please reinstall itunes.

Sadly the reinstall didn't help. So I wanted to install the windows updates. I tried many times, but everytime it says, that the Windows update service isn't running, and that i have to restart the computer. But this didn't work either. So i checked many threads and solutions.
I tried to install the windows update agent manually because i saw, that i don't have the windows update service in services. The installation failed with teh Error 0x8000ffff.

I also registered the windows update many times, but nothing seems to help.

I'm sorry when I gave you to less information, but i hope someone has a solution for my problem. Please ask if you need more information.

    Hope someone can help me..

    Thank you and kind regards.

Hi Abushgeer, welcome to the forums :)

You could try Microsoft Fix It, just click the Fix It link on the following page (originally a Vista issue but could still solve it)
Error code 0x80000FF when you download updates on a Windows Vista-based computer by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update

    Hope it helps :)

If it's true and you really don't have Windows Update service then please import this fix to registry https://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...auservwin7.zip

If you cannot uninstall Itunes then try Revo Uninstaller Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily to rid of
Itunes. If it doesn't work then prepare logs from OTL http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe (leave default settings),this will create two logs MAIN +EXTRAS, both logs attache to post.

    Hey,

    @OS:
I tried to install the fix it, but the failure 0x8000ffff still occurs when i try to install the windows update agent. I also tried it manually, but the entries in the registry don't exist in my system.

    @Flavius
Thanks, I'll check this as soon as possible and send you a feedback.

    Hey Flavius,

It seems that the windows update service is installed now. Thank you very much i've been searching for this a long time.

I'll give another feedback, when I checked the functionality of Windows update. Hope I can solve the problem with iTunes also this way.

    Thank You!

1.reinstall Windows Update Agent as you want before
2.Go to Control Panel>>Troubleshooting>>System and Security>>Fix problems with Windows Update

3.Run "MS Fix it" from this site: How do I reset Windows Update components?

both in NORMAL mode or if it doesn't work try it again in AGGRESSIVE mode

//ignore message about compatbility with only older systems, this "MS Fix It" is comapatible with Windows 7 as well//

4.Reregister all WU libraries Repair & Fix Windows Updates with Fix WU Utility | The Windows Club

    5.Uninstall all 3p security software.
6.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe and choose "run as admin") and type

    sfc /scannow

7.Try also clean boot How to Troubleshoot a Problem by Performing a Clean Startup in Windows 7 or Vista

If none of above advice help then I have question

When you go to Start>>Search>>services.msc can you run Windows Update service?

if ansers is:NO then follow below:

1.Download Process Monitor: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896645.aspx and run it.

2.Go Start>>Search>>Services.msc and try manually run Windows Update service, when it return error, save log in Process Monitor as *.PML format

3.Download & run VistaSysInfoTool http://www.vistax64.com/attachments/...ms-sysinfo.exe,select all in this tool and create log.

    4. Download & run RegBak tool Acelogix Software - Freeware, this tool will create backups of registry files.
For me important are SOFTWARE and SYSTEM files.

    5.Find also CBS.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder

Pack all files to *.rar or *.7z format and upload on RapidShare AG, Cham, Switzerland or MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service.Give me links to uploaded files on PM.
