    System Showing Wierd SP1 Version

I have loaded SP1 on 2 of my laptops. One of them is simply statting Service Pack 1 under my Properties. The other is showing a Service Pack 1 v721. What is this all about?

Where did you download it from?

That's funny. I just installed the SP1 on my laptop using Windows Update and I see nothing like that, I mean, I see just "Service Pack 1" there, no "v.xxx".

How did you install the SP1?

Would be good to know, I still need to install it on my main machine.

Well, that's what I was just thinking. The 721 was downloaded from Softpedia last week. The other one, that just says Service Pack 1 is from WU. I am trying to find out if there is a difference. Where do you go to see your OS version string? I can't remember!

I would remove it right away and start running some malware scans. I suggest it over and over to people, but always get your OSes and service packs from legit sources, after they go final and are made public.

If the system comes up clean, download and install the real SP1, either from Windows Update or from the single file executable.

The SP1 version in the screenshot above is the RC not the Final

If you install the final but still see that version number, simply remove SP1, clean out the temporarily SP files and reinstall SP1
