Hi, welcome to the forums :)

If you type activate in to the start search box then click 'Activate Windows' this should take you the Windows activation screen.

My concern is that the 'Not Genuine' notification normlly occurs on pirated copies of Windows 7 with altered activation technology files. Is your copy legal?

    Follow the steps here.

    Product Key Number - Change

You can also try the Command Line to change the Product key:

Click on the Start Button and type: CMD

The Start Menu will show 'CMD.exe'.

Right-click the CMD.exe file and select Run as admin.

In the CMD window, type slmgr -ipk <type your product key here>

To activate windows after changing the key, type slmgr.vbs -ato

If you are using the Windows 7 that came with the laptop it will not work with an MSDN key you need an OEM key.

I find this request strange because if you have genuine access to MSDN you should be able to do a basic task like Activation

seems like this has been slipped an activator into the the windows installation files to remove avtivation technologies seen this before elsewhere on the web.

I hope this is not an ebay MSDN key, if it is and windows has turned non-genuine, the key has likely been blacklisted by MS. OTOH, if this has been purchased from MS or given out by school/university, you need to call those guys and get them to activate for you.

I agree about the key, but the way the screen is showing, it is as if there has been some sort of activator been slipped streamed into the installation files, my bet is that the windows 7 DVD you have has been tampered with, you only have to search the web to see the results.

True. The impression i got initially was that OP's trying to turn legit, thats why i told him how to enter the legit product key. Now that he claims to have an MSDN key, thats just what he needs to do. BUT if there is an activator installed, that'll need to be uninstalled first.
