    Windows Live Essentials Update

I just received notification from the automatic update service that Windows wants to install a 156MB Windows Live Essentials update. 156 megs! Except for Security Essentials I use none of the programs involved in this update. Can someone please tell me why I NEED to install this update. I'm not familiar enough with Win 7 just to dismiss it, but I'm not inclined to install this massive update. Any opinions from Windows 7 experts?

If you have any previous versions of Windows Live essentials installed the Windows will want to update it. As it's optional you don't need to install it if you don't want to. The size is the estimated size once ALL items have been installed.

You can, however, choose only to install certain parts if you wish once you download and run the installer :)

If you don't already have it installed, it's not really an update. Basically, Microsoft is offering you this software package through its automated update service. You can also download it directly from their web site. It's not required, although, there are some very usable programs in it.
