I cannot download Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2010

I get an error message telling me to try again, and when I try again I get the same error message. Is it necessary to install this update?

    The update number is (KB890830).

I had problems too but I finally got it to work... just kept trying. I'm not really sure about how urgent this is but you're probably fine if you get it in the next few days or so.

I'm just curious, are you going with Windows Update on the Start menu to get the update? :)

The MSRT is a once a month Microsoft product that scans your computer for malicious software—including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom—and helps remove any infection found. It basically functions as any other on-demand scanning tool such as Malwarebytes. So to answer your specific question, "Is it necessary to install this update?", the answer is no. Just as it's not necessary to install Malwarebytes.

If you choose to run the tool it can be downloaded separately from one of three Microsoft sites: Windows Updates, Microsoft Updates, and the Microsoft Download Center.

If you reboot, it will install correctly. Don't know why it acts this way.
