You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
- Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
- Right-click the hard disk that Windows is installed on (usually drive C), and then click Properties. The drive that Windows is installed on displays the Windows icon.
- Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Try this next and see if it will reset update and install properly.
Windows Update - Reset
If that doesn't work try the below link. Run this up to three times to fix registry. It will tell you it is done and can't fix everything. Run it again. It takes multiple passes to repair everything.
