Yeah I just spoke to an Asus tech yesterday and he told me they rarely have updates on their boards and since my board was just purchased in October and is a newer board, that it is unlikey it would have an update.

Go check with Asus and up date there if there actually is an update.

I don't like things messing with my Asus.

Those Marvells are your controller drivers which operate your hard drive.
I'll get the Asus link.

Enter the board info on the right or click the autodetect on the left.

Mike

That may sound paranoid but I prefer to make sure I have the exact version recommended by Asus thats all.

Did you use the CD or the web site drivers? My board was bought in August, but the CD was from 2009 so there were 2-4 newer versions of every driver on the board. The CD's are always outdated.

I would check the Marvell at Asus just to be sure.

Let me get your moboard in a new tab be back in a minute.

Click open the (+) SATA on the Asus page.

This is newest and first listing. 2010/06/29 update
Marvell 912x Controller Driver V1.0.0.1036 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.
You can download this it may be the same or possibly newer than yours.

If you go to Start> Control Panel> Device Manager then open the (+) Storage Controler in my Device Manager list. Right click the Marvell driver then left click properties and it will give you driver version. If the listed on Asus is newer install.

If yours is working fine you also can just leave it be.
Probably sounds like I'm pushing for you to update. I'm not.

I really wanted you to have the option if you wanted since you got the Win Update notice.
Good to know your options that is all.

The one Windows is trying to install is probably newer but it is a Universal driver evidently not approved by Asus yet.

This tutorial shows you how to hide the Windows Updates such as the Marvell so it won't bother you again.

Hello!

I take it that you no longer need MY help, as Hopalong has give you such good advice! You have received amazing help from him - be very greatful, as we can all see you are. Anyway, a short description as to why a download from the Microsoft download centre standalone works:

When an update fails, it could be caused by a small corruption of the servicing store. When an update is installed via Windows Update, it is staged and this can mean that this small corruption causes it to fail. However, when it is updated from a standalone, it is flashed, and this can wipe out the corruption. This is still only a theory, but it is our best theory to date. For a fuller explanation, see the top half of my old post here: Solved .NET framework 4 Client profile - Page 4 - Vista Forums

I assume the cd was used when the mb was installed but I'm not sure since I had someone else build my pc. The tech at asus didn't seem to think I would need to update so I chose not to. Everything is working great now. i got the update to stop updating and I'll check in with asus in a month or so to see if I should update anything.
Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate it.
I'm not sure if Niemiro was being sarcastic or not but I always thank people when they help me with pc issues. I got busy and didn't get to log back in until today so I apologize if it seemed like I took the info and ran with it without saying thank you.

It didn't come out quite right. I didn't mean to be sarcastic. I usually deal with the Windows Update issues, and in particular the ones relating to corruptions, and the only reason for that post was to give you a chance to jump at me if you DID have a Windows Update issue relating to corruptions. I can see that you always thank people! You seem like a very polite and easy to work with person! Anyway, sorry for any confusion!

Good idea on the Asus updates etc. If it isn't broke leave it be. Now you know where the Asus downloads are located.

Glad you got things fixed.
