    New Update Won't Load

I received this update last week but it will not load. I don't know if I need this or not.

    Your advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2160841)
    Download size: 3.6 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
    Update type: Important
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system that is running the Microsoft .NET Framework and gain complete control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

    Go to this web page.
MS10-077: Vulnerability in the .NET Framework could allow remote code execution

Then find the following and click the link to download and install directly. This often works.

Skip the details: Download the updates for your home computer or laptop from the Microsoft Update website now:

That sometimes works and easy to try.

Our resident specialist Niemiro is on line and I'm sure he will help you out this morning.

    At least have better suggestions.

    Hang in there.

    Hello!

Error code 66A on a standalone. Turns a network connection error code into a corruption error code.

    Code:
    C:\Users\Richard>err 66A
    # for hex 0x66a / decimal 1642 :
      ERROR_PATCH_TARGET_NOT_FOUND winerror.h
    # The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows
    # Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be
    # missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different
    # version of the program. Verify that the program to be
    # upgraded exists on your computer and
    # that you have the correct upgrade patch.

    Please download the following tool:

Automated cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

Use it to remove .net Framework 4 only. Once it has removed .net Framework 4 ONLY, restart your computer and download the .net Framework Web Installer from here, and install it: Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer)

Restart your computer again, and open Windows Update. Even if it shows you updates to install already, click "Check for Updates". Once it has checked, install anything available, and come back to us on the success of this.

    Thanks!
