Interesting of all the important updates that are due (47) that is the only one that is unticked. Im a bit wary of installing all the important updates as last time i did this upon restart i couldn't get into the login page the screen went just plain black?

how does the layman run sfc/scannow? start run sfc does not load up anything. Aside the specific installation you give, I am also a bit wary of installing all the updates windows recommends as last time i did this upon restart i could not login...the screen was just plain black.

    Thanks all for your help

Well, it would seem Microsoft does not like the hash that key is creating. You should be able to get confirmation from them whether or not the key you're using is blacklisted if you call and explicitly request it. Unfortunately, that is what seems to be happening if a retail copy is no longer activating. If you have the COA, discs, and retail packaging, you can request another key if they cannot assist you with this one. You should be able to get that from them at the least if this is indeed a legit copy of Windows.

unless I m mistaken...doesn't the product ID ..067... indicate a MSDN key? I recall reading it somewhere in a MS Forum....couldn't direct you to it unfortunately as can't remember the exact site. Probably explains why its showing as blocked

I have seen that too......065-067 or some such are the keys you never update and do not touch unless you want headaches.....

To check your PID press the win key and pause at the same time, or open system properties through the control panel, scroll down to activation section and look at the PID It will look something like this 12345-067-1234567-54321, the portion you are interested in is the three digit section, if it matches or is within one or two digits of the examples below you probably have an MSDN key.

065, 066, 067 for Ultimate, 220 area for Pro and the 230, 231 area for premium, there are probably others but they should be close to those posted

You may have been sold a TechNet key according to the PID. This is highly illegal and needs to be taken to eBay and their "trusted" seller, regardless of how much time has passed.

Either ebay is selling pirate MSDN copies of Win7 or they're not. If they're keeping a "trusted seller" who is doing so then they are abetting a theft. It needs to be aired and resolved.

Let us know what happens going forward.
