Windows Update on 7 stalls while "Installing Updates (2/3)" on AMD64 m

    Hello All,

This is yet another issue with Windows Update on 7; I recently (a couple of weeks or so ago) upgraded my father's computer to Windows 7 and he loves it.

However, whenever either of us try and use Windows Update, it sits there for hours and hours on "Installing Updates 1 of 2."

Does anybody have any ideas where I could look as to why this is happening?

I will post more information on this when I can find more detailed account of what's going on with 7.

    Thanks,
    - Robert

    wu

    you could try :-

go to services (click start and type SER

    stop windows update service

    go to c:/windows/software distribution/data store

    empty this folder

    restart/start windows update service

open windows update and it should be red indicating never searched for updates
    then try again

also check installed programs and make sure what your trying to install hasn't already automatically installed when you first installed Windows 7

    just an idea

same problem, windows 7 "installing 2 of 2"

    lost in space
I know win 7 is on the way out, shopping new computer
will shift to win 10 and hope the older one holds up while I transfer files and shop the required new software

but, what to do in the mean time
I've had failed updates make a ROYAl mess, stop restart... etc

is there a way to prod this along?
or stop it without causing a Microsoft rebellion?

at this point, do I even need it?

installed MS security update just fine last night

processor is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad if that matters to this issue...

    1. Do a clean install of Windows 7 SP1.

    2. Obtain and run Simplix UpdatePack7R2 21.3.10
(It will restart the computer multiple times and take about an hour to finish)
(It will update the operating system to March 2021)

    3. Install the necessary device drivers (chipset, graphics, audio, wireless, ethernet, etc.).

    4. Configure and personalize its settings and display to your liking.

    Done!

Depending on the computer's speed and its internet connection, and depending on your computer skills, the entire process will take 3 - 4 hours.

    what is Simplix UpdatePack7R2 21.3.10 ?

I don't down load anything but "official" software, too many scams

can you tell me more about it?

though not needed today, over an hour and a half, update did complete

You can read all about Simplix UpdatePack7R2 here:

It's the only way now that I bring a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 up-to-date because it saves several hours of work and frustration.
