Windows 7: Some updates were not installed 80070641

13 Jan 2011   #1

Some updates were not installed 80070641

Windows Vista Home Premium w/SP2 (of course).

Updates were going just fine the last 18months, through 2 days ago.
Some windows updates are not installed. Tried multiple times.

Attached is a copy of the
Code 8070641 Windows Update encountered an uknown error.

Used Eventvwr.exe to find permissions issue with COM comoponent IPBusEnum
Tried running MMC to use Component Services to give all accounts full permissions. Still cannot update.

Verified no pending updates in windows SoftwareDistribution/Download/yadayadadirectory of today's date.

Tried SFC /scannow, which reported errors, but is huge and not sure what to search for (attached).

Someone throw some help? Thanks.

See if you can go back to a system restore point auto-created by the update installer before the issue started, then try to install a single update at a time to find the one causing the issue.

This is actually quite a specific error. Have a look at the winerror.h section of this for an explanation:

Please try the System Restore first. If that hasn't helped at all (and why it hasn't) then please tell me, and we can get started with some manual fixing.
