    Windows updates

Got an "important" update screen this am re KB2463332 on both machines, and clicked to download / install.

Now the update downloaded and installed for my laptop but not the desktop. Am using IE9 on the desktop and IE8 on the laptop - should this make any difference as does downloading at the same time as each of them? Am running 1500 download speed form my provider and thought this would be more than enough to cope.

I was asked by someone if I am running Microsoft SQL server and after checking what the heck this was I checked for - sqlserv.exe on both machines came up with no results.

Can someone tell me if I need a SQL server and what do I do to get this important update onto my desktop.

I have tried Googling Microsoft for that KB and it gives me info on it but not how to download it.

Am now completely confused as to why this situation has come up as i have had no problems with MS updates till now.

As IE9 is a beta, i suppose it is possible that it prevents your download. This download is a server download and unless you use your desktop at work, you don't need it. One of those microsoft updates everything updates. So long as other future updates work, you're fine.

    Hey thanks Dust sailor

Thanks mate I found out last night (quick search at work) re SQL and yes it was in Start all progams on the laptop - not the desky, and something for commercial users.
But it was why did it throw up this update on both machines and it installing on the laptop and not the desky that I found odd.

I had a trial of Office with the OEM OS on the laptop and the desky but no SQL on the desktop.

So I am assuming that "it" saw that there a some ref to SQL on the laptop - even though I haven't touched that feature and offered the update (but why on the desky??).

Anyhow I use the Student version of office (2007) which is good enough for what I want.

So it wasn't an IE9 issue - just a daft old newbie making assumptions too quickly.

I'm not sure, but it may be that microsoft has SQL listed as an automatic and important update to everyone as well, and that the update just didn't install correctly for the desktop. But since you really don't need it, its fine to leave it be provided it doesn't come back again or remain an annoying pop up that says DOWNLOAD ME lol. Pretty soon a service pack will be released that will fix a great many things and it includes all previous updates, and it comes out before the second half of this year. But I'm glad I could be of some help
