I can not use Windows Update to update my system. Every time I try to I get the mesege, ""Windows cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer"
I have restarted my computer multiple times and it does nothing. I have no idea what is going on or why it is doing this, can someone please help.

Click on start orb, type services.msc, in the services window stop the service "Windows Update".

Now navigate to the folder C:\windows\softwaredistribution and delete all its contents.

Now go back to the services window and restart the windows update service.

Now try updating.

Still no luck. I have no idea what is going on. I did a clean install and ran the updates just fine, then installed all the needed drivers from my computers website, and suddenly can't update. Do you know of anything else I can do?!?!?!? I really don't want to have to re-install again.

Run this MS fixit in both default and aggressive mode.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Also, run a malware scan with free malwarebytes.

www.malwarebytes.org

Its also possible one of the installed drivers is the problem, in which case one would need to try out a clean boot procedure.

Nothing is working. I am thinking it is a driver issue as well. What do you think I should do? What is clean boot procedure you mentioned.

Heres how to run a clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Also, navigate to C:\windows\windowsupdate.log and upload it here, we could try make some sense of it.

Hello!

Can you please go back into Services.msc as you did in the above tutorial, and try to start the Windows Update Service. Are any of these three services not started, non existent, or won't start?

Windows Update (Automatic, Delayed Start; Started)

COM+ Event System :Automatic (started)

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS):Manual or Automatic(Delayed Start)

The very best of luck! (otherwise I will bring out a big hammer!)
