Just got some update notices a minute ago, after having installed a new image of Windows 7 x64 integrated SP1 from Technet several days ago.

One of the updates is (KB971033) unchecked - Windows Activation Technologies update.

So I would say it's not included in the SP1 as it is. Is that the update you're referring to, or KB971003?

I am referring to the KB971033, yes

WAT (kb971033) is NOT included in SP1, but it'll be offered as an important update on a SP1 system. I think theres a new version of WAT out there.

Yeah, I got offered the WAT update just today on my integrated Win 7 SP1 install - so it wasn't included in it to begin with I believe.

(Sorry for the late response - I only just saw this thread!)

The latest edition of the WAT Update (KB971033) was released in spring 2011 - there has been no change since in the update itself. This release was probably to allow for the release of SP1.

What may have changed is the way it's being pushed by WU (I'm not certain that this has happened, either) - it may either have a different priority for SP1 to RTM, or MS may have upgraded it throughout.
When it was originally released, it was a 'Recommended' update for RTM (SP1 was not even in Beta, IIRC).

I'll try and check next time I have to do an RTM install

It currently shows in SP1 installs as an Important update but is optional - so you can opt out of it either by hiding it, or by adjusting your WU options appropriately.
