Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) .exe instead of using Windows Update. That's the way I did it for my Pro X64 system. Took 1.5 hours start to finish.

The 32 and 64 bit versions are there along with the associated symbol files.

I noticed that the x64 version is over 20MBs bigger than the x32 version.

I was lazy, I downloaded a Windows 7 image pre integrated with SP1 from Technet and installed cleaned. I couldn't be bothered to do my own imaging at the time.

Just finished doing a 32bit machine and all went fine for me, so that is 2 Intel x64 machines and this AMD Quad core with no problems.
All 3 have been regularly updated as well.
