Hi, JD.

You could try reactivate Volume in Disk Management and see if the disks start resynchronizing. Here is a TechNet topic on Troubleshooting Disk Management: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc787481(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_12

I tried reactiviting the disk and that worked. I am now back where I started. I downloaded and installed a couple of new update. Rebooted and tried to download SP1. No go, It does not even start to download, just cycles for a couple of minutes and i get the download failed message. So far I have tried any and all solutions with no sucess.
Thanks for the help to all

You can always try the manual way: Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Make sure your computer does not have malware in it.

Hi, JD.

I'm glad reactivating the disk worked. When you say you downloaded and installed a couple of new updates, what do you mean? Are there other updates listed in Windows Update? Had you been offered SP1 on Windows Update or were you trying to install it manually? Do you have any hidden updates? I'm concerned that the first time you ran the System Readiness Tool, you were offered a Hotfix. Now you mentioned "a couple new updates".

I suggest you go back to square one at Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center and then run the System Readiness Tool again (from Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2)

Ok, started over from scratch.
Ran all AV, malware sw, no problems.
Ran System Update Readiness Tool, it installed hotfix KB947821
Ran Windows update troubleshooter, It appeared to fix something.
Disable all AV and non essential services.
Ran update, no luck, refuses to download SP1
any other ideas, I'm open
TIA

Lets try something... So you downloaded the SP through Windows Updates and it failed to install. Now you can't download the SP at all?

This may sound silly, but I have a gut feeling about this.

Type "Disk Cleanup" into Windows Search and hit enter. Check all the boxes. Click ok at the bottom.

Reboot the PC and try to download the SP again.

Right click and run Disk clean up as Administrator.

or when you open the regular way Click the "Clean up System Files".

This will get rid of Windows temp files you don't need or want.
