My installation went without a hitch. It is as Jacee and Hopalong X replied. People who had success installing SP1 have no reason to come to the forums seeking help.
Some preparatory steps to take before any major upgrade, with several Windows 7 SP1 specific items noted:
- Clean out all temp files.
- Clear out all System Restore points but the last.
- Defrag your hard drive.
- Create a backup disk image to an external hard drive.
- Check the device manager and manufacturer's websites and verify that you have the newest available versions of your system's various device drivers installed. (Beware if you used Driver Cleaner programs.)
- Temporarily uninstall any/all security programs that have the capacity to block changes to the registry, unless they can be manually disabled and will remain disabled until manually restarted. If they automatically restart upon reboot, they must be temporarily uninstalled. (See https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-u...ml#post1266392 Re: McAfee)
- Check Windows Update to ensure all Important updates have been installed. (Note that KB 976902, is a Pre-requisite for SP1: Description of the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation software feature update)
- If you installed any of the pre-release versions of SP1, uninstall them before installing the final release version of SP1.
- If you are using a laptop, be sure to be plugged in to an electrical outlet.
