    Hello!

Please copy your entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Sent to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

I may be needing most/all logs from that folder. Please upload it here.

    Thanks!

    Richard

    Hi Richard

In your message above you had asked that upload my compressed CBS Folder "here", so here it is. BTW- I continue to get the following error whenever I try to run SP1,even running in SafeMode, ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT(080073712).

I have tried running the SP1 Update in the Windows Update Mode as well as in the Standalone Installer Mode, neither works. My last attempt was in SafeMode using "7601.17514.101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.iso" that also failed.

I am running in Administrator mode. All Microsoft System "Updates" with the exception of the SP1 Update, have & continue to install sucessfully.

    Thanks!
    Doug
    Hello Doug!

I see the problem! Thanks for uploading those logs!

Here is a section of your CBS.log:

So, hopefully, we will repair those two corrupt .manifest files, and SP1 will install successfully.

Please download the attached Packs.zip, and extract both files into C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\WinSxS\Manifests .

Create the above directory if it does not already exist.

Rerun the System Update Readiness Tool. If you have absolutely lost the installer, look in your Downloads folder, otherwise re-download it from here: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Restart your computer, upload me a copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log and re-try SP1.

    Thanks!

    Windows 7 SP1 Installation Failures

    Hi Richard!

I found that the folder that you wanted me to create already exists in my Temp Dir. I have included a zip file of that folder and the files contained therein. So my questions is, what do we do with those existing files, if anything???

Additionally, if I am reading your post correctly you wanted me to create that folder and to rerun the Readiness Tools again, is that correct? I had just run that file prior to sending you the first zip file. Will the readiness tools send files to that folder by default or do i have to do something else. I noticed that the existing files all has 2009 dates.

    Regards,
    Doug

    Windows 7 SP1 Installation Failures

    Hi

Well things just went from bad to worse. After installing the files and trying to run the System Update Readiness Tool I am now receiving the following error; Installer encountered an error:0x80040154 - Class not registered.

I tried running the sfc /scannow app but that did not correct the problem. My System restore function now also dos not work. All this while running with no firewall or antivirus software running and in a Clean Boot config.

    Any ideas?

    Hello!

I am sorry to hear that. Can you please copy to Desktop, zip up, and upload C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log?

    Thanks!

    Windows 7 SP1 Installation Failures

    Hi

Is it possible to create a Win7 bootable disk with SP1 on it, that would allow one to simply run SP1 from there???

    Windows 7 SP1 Installation Failures

    Hi

Thanks! Using Slipstream assumes that I am installing Win 7 & SP1 together, right? However, in this case Win 7 is already installed and all I want to do is to install SP1. The problem that I have is that SP1 will not install while I am running my currently Win 7 instance (even in safe mode) so i want to force it by installing from a bootable instance of Win 7 (but not install Win 7), does that make sense and can it be done?

You may want to try the following steps
    1. Slipstream Windows 7 SP1 into a Installation DVD or ISO File
    2. Repair Install
This theoretically means that you will be Upgrading your current Windows 7 to Windows 7 SP1 without losing your user files.
