Why power fail EID 41 when sleeping after SP1
If your boot device uses a SCSI miniport driver (like with my on-board 6Gb/s SATA Marvell chip), and if you have hybrid sleep mode option enabled (so that hiberbation is involved), after SP1 you are probably wondering why instead of sleeping your computer is now shutting down uncleanly with a Event ID 41 kernel-power fail, unclean shutdown of windows. See this thread:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/sp1-disables-sleep-function/cb5397b4-e312-4883-9963-a7271734991e?page=1&tm=1299646566348
I resolved my issue by disabling the hybrid sleep mode, but there is a hot fix available from Microsoft for this issue. I plan on trying it tonight:
A crash memory dump file is not created, or hibernation does not work, when you use a SCSIport miniport driver as the startup device driver in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
UPDATE: I applied the hotfix, reenabled hybrid mode, and all is well now.
