One problem resolved and one more to go!

Referring back to my post about the Plantronics DSP-550 headset which will no longer work with SP1, I had a silly reply from their customer support saying that the problem would be resolved by resetting the hardware through the control panel - as though I and the MS engineer wouldn't have checked that. I'm sad to admit that I lost my rag and the reply was, well...

I can use the Win 7 Speech Recognition Program again because I dug out an ancient all plastic headset that works perfectly. It is too uncomfortable to wear but I use my speakers for sound and the headset as a microphone only. Who needs Plantronics! hehehe

I now have a problem that the Windows Activation detects new hardware when I plug anything into the USB ports and needs to 'activate'. It activates itself automatically after three days which isn't a problem but how many 'activations' can one have before MS software thinks one is doing something illegally? Does anyone know the answer?

I've got a huge grin on my face because it didn't detect that I have just changed my monitor (plugged into motherboard) as I was having a problem with it and the change to 64 bit.

    Cheers to you all!

I have a Logitech headset that always seems to work well once you set the default playback to the headset. When plugging in a web cam with a mic however that will tend to offset the mic on the headset. I used all that Skype however.

As far as plugging anything into a port or the 4port hub I have here and being prompted about a hardware change I haven't run into that one yet. When first getting this case together and swapping memory out a fresh install of 7 had to be seen to then however. You likely saw an update you missed previously go along with SP1 that brought this about.

You could be right, Night Hawk. The very helpful MS engineer tried to contact me re this new problem following an email to him. I have to ring back to let him know when it would be convenient for him to phone again!
It is when I plug anything into a usb port that the problem arises - new hardware detected, need to reactivate Windows. Ah well, we will see what transpires with the helpful Arshad.
