Hello jeremydelgado!

Thank you so much for your patience, and sorry for the delay in responding. However, I am here now!

First, a little bit of explanation. This is not required for the fix, explained below, but you might be interested in what I am doing (if I don't presume too much knowledge!)

Windows Update has to update a lot of files. It also needs to keep track of which files have been updated, and which files haven't, otherwise things become very hectic very quickly.

It also needs to keep a list of which updates have been installed, and which ones haven't, so that updates aren't repeatedly installed.

To do this, it keeps lists of just about everything!

.cat, .mum, and .manifest files all help with these lists. What they actually do is a bit post grad, but feel free to ask any questions you may have

Unfortunately, some .cat, .mum, and .manifest files have become corrupt on your computer. This means that one list is saying that KB2505438 is installed, and another list is saying that KB2505438 isn't installed.

Windows Update realises that it cannot make a mistake; that could prove disastrous. And it cannot just guess at which list is correct. So it fails the installation, waiting for the inconsistencies in the lists to be fixed. I know that the update is installed. So I shall add some data to the list missing KB2505438 from it.

After that, the lists will match, and Windows Update will work again (hopefully!)

Again, if you have any questions at all, please do ask them!

The fix:

Fortunately, fixing these lists shouldn't be too hard. I just give some .cat, .mum, and .manifest files to the System Update Readiness Tool, tell it to fix the list, and done

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
@jeremydelgado: Ignore the above

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

Thanks!

Richard
