No longer necessary. Black Viper was the bible for tech enthusiasts to claw back performance from XP and early Vista. Then Win7 got smarter setting all services not needed at startup on Manual fast-triggers and effectively becoming the Black Viper.

Service tweaks like other tweaks will almost always come back to bite you in Win7. It is already optimized too lean to tolerate tweaks to claw back performance which cannot be wrung out any further. The way to go is hardware upgrades.

I used those tweaks before. Now i just leave them all at default. From my experience, i didn't notice any performance increase. Gregrocker is correct, the best way to improve performance is by upgrading yr hardware.

And the hardware.... They might have been needed with a single core 500mhz cpu and 64mb of ram but on todays machines..............

I used the tweaks with Vista, even on a decent specced machine, but I've never found it necessary on Seven.

Now with Windows 7 those tweaks have to be taken carefully as they interact themselves between each settings. As exemple some aero settings and performances will not fit optimized tweaks in registry as they made the first null or vice-versa.

For Black Viper, tested during the RC but 'id not noticed any improvements, only getting a little more lost in settings..., so have nearly to get back to default settings on his site web page!

BV was great with his tweaks on XP (I used some of his reg hacks on my old laptop) but there is no need on Windows 7, BTW he has nice Cats

I tested the BV stuff heavily with Windows 7 early on. I found that after making a number of service changes, that my box actually got slower in timing tests with a standard set of tests and a stopwatch. So, today, I just leave it alone. It's fast and efficient enough.
