    Windows Update not working anymore

All of the sudden my Windows Update stopped working. When I start it, it just says that Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows Explorer restarts and nothing happens. I already tried rebooting, but that didn't help. I can't recall doing anything odd before Windows Update stopped working.

    Does anyone have an idea?

Oh, I saw that thread but I thought it was about Windows Installer only. I'll check it out now, thanks :)

As a matter of fact, Windows just gave me a solution after I sent an error report. I never thought that stuff worked haha

Yeah, I was reading all these guys having this problem and I was thinking how come I've never seen it. So I try Windows Update, and there it was!

Out of a sudden, I didn't even download any updates meanwhile, I ran Windows Update yesterday and the day before without any updates. Today I ran it, and crash. Anyway, the reg fix works,at once. that's the good news.

What do you mean by not working?

Just got a laptop with Win 7 (my first step away from XP - with MS at least). Completed oobe and got on my network. The first thing I did was go to Windows Update to get patches. The site scans my machine and comes up with six for the first round. Click download and install. An hour later I'm still looking at a cute green bar with a message that says something like "Preparing to install." It just hangs there with no errors. Tried again with firewall and virus protection off and got the same results.
    Sound familiar?
