    Recent windows update broke WMP 12 mpeg playing ability


    Hello all,

    I am having a problem with by machine after a recent windows update. There were 3 updates, one was SP1. After that WMP 12 will not play any mpeg files. It just hangs and has to be killed with the task manager. I have tried all the fixes I could find including the FixIt routines from Microsoft. So far nothing. Anybody have any ides of where I might start looking?

    Have you tried a plain reinstall. Uninstall from Control Panel, then delete any remneants in Program Files if there are any. Then either download an old version like 11 or 10 from a non-Microsoft site OR just re-download 12. May work.. If not I suggest a new media player like iTunes, WinDVD or VLC.

    Thanks for the reply, I thought WMP 12 was part of the windows 7 operating system and could not be uninstalled or installed seperately. If so where do I find a download of WMP 12?
