Windows 7: Possible to get all Windows 7 updates at once?

Possible to get all Windows 7 updates at once?

Is there a way to download them all at once? I did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional two days ago, and every time I think I have them all, suddenly there is more. Well, suddenly isn't the right word, because if it was suddenly than it wouldn't be bothering me.

My problem is that Windows update will say that there are no more updates, than if I wait a couple hours suddenly there are updates again. An example is what happened between last night, and today. Last night it said it was up to date again, today it found a security update from August of 2009.

Now I do realize that certain updates need to be installed before newer ones can be installed. This makes complete sense to me. Going along these lines though that should mean that after it says it's up to date, and I click check for updates again, than it would have the next set of updates who's requirements have just been met. Right? Instead of telling me there are no new updates until I check it again a couple hours later? Also, I do realise that there has been some recent updates, but those are not what's bugging me. What's bugging me is updates from years ago that Windows should of found already.

In other words, is there a trick to making Windows just give me all the updates at once instead of dragging it out?

Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1

Welcome Simple Echo to the forums.

I have found the same thing after a new install. Can we assume that you installed SP1 as soon as you installed the Win 7 pro? SP1 included many of the older updates and was "supposed" to get you up to date but knowing MS, it probably did not. Checking for updates can be a manual process and the last time I did a new install, it took a couple of times and all of them were there. I am not sure that sometimes the internal program that determines your installation might not check until you use some function and then it flags it for updates.

Other than that, I don't think that there is any magic bullet to get them all at one time.

I think SP1 was on the install DVD I used. I installed it from the ISO you get with the student discounted version. Windows does say it is installed at least.

Thanks for your help, was starting to think my install went wrong in some way since I haven't seen anyone else describing this problem. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Windows 10 Education 64 bit

There are some updates that have to be installed by them selves and require a reboot. Also some programs/addins like Dot Net Framework must be installed and then updated, but that can't always be done in the same session. Stuff like Internet Explorer, Media player etc, is probably the same way. It gets installed, at some point your PC scans for updates (again) and updates them. You'll also sometimes get updates to updates. Eventually it should settle down to the usual patch Tuesday roughly once a month update schedule.
