No you activate only once. A few times a year, however, MS checks to make sure that you are activated.
This procedure started about a year ago.
If you take action to prevent to verification, you will no longer receive updates and will slowly lose the ablity to use Windows 7

Computergeekguy, you may be getting confused between Activation and Validation.

Activation confirms you are using legitimate software and takes place within 30 days and is invoked by the user.

Validation involves the download of an ActiveX tool that lets Microsoft periodically carry out checks to ensure your software is legal.

However, there is a constant battle between software hackers and Microsoft as a search on Google will reveal.

Thanks for reply richc46 but i do not know what you mean by "If you take action to prevent to verification, you will no longer receive updates and will slowly lose the ablity to use Windows 7"

Does that mean one day calc.exe wont work the next freecell wil stop working

Or is it like when you didnt have the registration key and it wont let have a wall paper.

    Thanks

I dont have the number off hand, but there is one update (dont know the number) that allows MS to make these checks a few times a year. If you do not install the update or remove it, as far as I know, your Windows will eventually not be able to be used. Essentially, you will have a computer without an OS.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here. What I am talking about is an update, which you already have. MS uses it to check on you a few times a year. You do not have to do anything. If you have the update, you will not have a problem. Tell me exactly whay you have to do on a regular basis that has you concerned.

As I understand it once you have accepted Microsoft's validation ActiveX and passed the integrity check you won't even know that your system has been validated or how often and you shouldn't have any further problems in relation to the legality of your operating system.

Obviously it's done to try and defeat piracy or at least mitigate the effects of it.

sorry but i should have explained this a little better

This computer was hooked up to the internet so that i could enter the activation key and it would talk to Microsoft and set up the system when i installed the OS.

I installed updates and all that and set up my programs and such.

The computer was built for a task that WONT have an internet connection.

A friend of mine told me that would not work because 7 needs to talk to Microsoft to do validation stuff every now and then and if it cant it will stop working.

So i was wondering what to do.

From what i have heard from you guys is that it is an update that windows installs and i have installed updates.

if i re install seven and dont let it do updates will that work? or will it still stop working after so long of no internet connection.

P.s. The reason it wont have an internet connection is because it wont be in my house. i just brought it inside to get it activated.

Not true. If you have the update that needs to be verified, it will wait until a certain interval before it attempts the verification. It will take no action until the next time you are on line. If you are properly validated there will be no problem.
