    Windows update problem

Hi, while trying to run windows update I get this message: 'Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.' I've checked and restarted the service and it still happens. This is a brand new laptop that came with win7 home premium x64 installed and also included the disk. On the disk it clearly states that it includes SP1. However in the system properties, there is no indication that SP1 is installed?
I dropped the guys I bought it from an email but no reply yet, any advice would be great. If you need more info, just ask. Thanks.

    Have a look at THIS.

Follow the instructions in order and post back with the results.

Sometimes an update gets corrupted and then Windows gets confused and thinks the service is no longer running.
    ^ This is true. ^

Hi, thanks for that, everything seems to be working fine now. I still find it odd, as it was a new install of windows with no previous updates. But who cares, it's working now. Thanks again for the help.
