    WIN7 SP1 - unavailable?

    Hi

I have been putting off updating to SP1. Religiously did not tick it when I did any important or optional updates.

Ran WINVER today. I am on Version 6.1 Build 7600.

SP1 is NOT showing up as an important or optional update anymore. I have NOT hidden it.

    Is it no longer available?

If so, a) how and b) should I get it now? Are the issues I initially read about resolved?

    Tks

I have not heard a rational argument why you should not have your OS up to date.

Just prepare for SP1 installation - it is a big one and deserves special attention.

    • Run Disk Cleanup beforehand
    • Defrag the C: partition (my habit)
    • If laptop - do not do it on battery power. Plug it in.
    • Check only the SP1 update and install it alone.
    • Turn off or disable your antivirus program during installation
    • Do not multitask while the update is installing. Leave the computer alone, push your chair back far enough that you can't reach the keyboard, put the mouse on a shelf!
    • The installation takes around 30 minutes.
    • After the computer reaches the desktop there is disk activity for a good 15 minutes afterward. Continue to leave it alone until you notice that disk activity has slowed to near normal.
    • Restart the computer (my habit)
    • The first couple times you start the computer after SP1 it will take a while. Then it "settles in"

    Easy!
