Another undocumented update. Tiny 44 kb in my update queue, but no indication whatsoever what the h*** this small lump of code is resolving..

    Hello!

Microsoft usually document these pretty quickly, but as always, just use my tool to break into the file, and take a look! Windows Update - Extract an Update

For this update, the file being updated is diskdump.sys.

It gives you a little bit of information!

Yeah, I found out on a WSUS description that it ''supersedes'' an older update of diskdump.sys fixing this issue. The only missing part now is why this older update had to be superseded.

Installed it after learning this, no issues, no reboot.

    Hello!

Pretty much. It also contains a few other Windows Update files to make it work, just so that Windows knows exactly what has been installed and what has not, but they are only technical padding. The only real change is diskdump.sys.

Diskdump.sys is involved in helping to crash your system! lol. It deals with the writing of kernal dump files to your hard disk should your computer generate a Kernal Mode Exception (BSoD)

No idea. Hopefully they will document it soon!

I am extremely hesitant to install updates when no KB article has been published or when a published KB article does not provide a clear, concise explanation about specifically, what the update is meant to address.
The only exception are Critical Security updates for which a PoC has been published and is being actively exploited.

YMMV but, since MS is taking it's time putting out the KB, I'll take my time installing the update, tyvm.

    The KB is up now.

Hibernation does not work or memory dump file is not created after you install Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1
This issue occurs because the operating system cannot use the features that are required to create the memory dump file or the hibernation file on the SCSI miniport device.
