    Windows Update won't run

    Hi All,

When I try to run Windows Update, I get this error:

"Windows could not start the windows update service on local computer
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."

I've checked the registry to be sure that the path is correct (%systemroot% rather than %fystemroot%).

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

    WU

I've read this one before, it could be a problem with your frame network 4 client,
you could try manually update this then try windows update again

also make sure your temp folder is empty,
when updates/installs are in use they use this folder
and if they fail sometimes parts get left behind
it did it to me with IE9

    just a thought

    Here's what I got:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: VSSetup
Problem Signature 01: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup
    Problem Signature 02: 4.0.30319
    Problem Signature 03: 10.0.30319.1
    Problem Signature 04: 1
    Problem Signature 05: Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu
    Problem Signature 06: Install_I_Interactive_Error
    Problem Signature 07: 0x80080005
    Problem Signature 08: 2148007941
    Problem Signature 09: unknown
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

Sig 7 is a server error. One suggested fix was to remove any conflicting antivirus software. I removed the only one I have other than MSE to no avail.

What is this Locale ID 1033? This has come up in other areas as part of the heap of problems I've run into recently.

    Any ideas?

Besides MSE, which AV was installed and were both of them actively monitoring the system at the same time ?

Locale ID 1033 means the OS is English (en) - US.
