Fresh Windows 7 install, having update problem.

So I installed Windows 7 yesterday. Now when I turn the system off, it downloads something like 70+ updates. When I switch my system back on, I think it tries to install them, but it stays at 0% for 3/4 minutes, then says something about 'reverting' and then goes to the log in screen. The same thing happens everytime I turn it off and back on, it can't seem to install the updates, or whatever it's trying to do when I turn the system on.

Any ideas?

Don't attempt to install such a large batch of updates.

It's more time consuming I know, but try installing them in batches of half-a-dozen or so at a time.

You might also want to change your update settings vis: Start>All Programs>Windows Update>Change Settings>Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.

By trying to install such a large batch you risk having a load of them fail.

Also, try and install SP1 as soon as you can as a lot of the updates you mention will be included in it.

The reverting message can occur when you try and install an update before one in being hasn't finished, but if updates are being installed Windows can and does appear inactive for some time, so give the system time to finish its task.

It seems to me that the downloaded updates may be corrupted. Try turning off automatic updates from Control Panel (don't forget to turn them back on later), then download updates manually by clicking "Windows Updates" from the start menu.

I was going to go through what seavixen32 said, but cdmoomaw had an easy solution that I thought I'd try first, and that worked. All 80 updates installed without a hitch.

After days of attempting solutions to a zero percent appearing on downloads on Windows Update (Win 7 Pro), the light came on in my brain. It is taking hours to accomplish a task that used to take minutes. What have I not done to accommodate this? Click Start; in the Search box type the word sleep. Change the "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never." Why? Because now your machine will have enough time to do the updates. (I used to leave it on overnight in update mode, but failed to realize it would quit in 30 minutes and never get the job done.) I hope this simple solution works for you. (Try not to hit yourself too hard on the forehead as you say "Duh." My bruise should subside any day now . . . )
