    Windows Update Problem

    Hi forum,
A situation has arisen that is causing a little concern and affecting PC stability.
An update option thus.... "Synaptic-Input-Synaptic PS/2 port touch pad" has
appeared in my updates. When I try to install it it refuses and shows up as an error 10 affecting the pad and pointer control. The pointer actually freezes and I can only free it by plugging in a usb mouse into my laptop.
At this time the device appeared in Device Manager with the yellow triangle attached. Trying to update the driver informs me that it is up to date.
To get my Laptop working without the attached mouse I did a system restore and all seems well now but the actual device has now disappeared from the Device list. The update still remains but I am loath to download it with all this trouble.
Going on Synaptics website proved fruitless. Any advice as to what might be happening and what could remedy the situation.

Well you could go to the HP site, find the touch pad drivers for your model laptop & install it manually, while you have the usb mouse plugged in. I'd try that first.

Windows update sometimes doesn't install the latest or the best drivers. It's (almost) always better to update/install them yourself, to avoid such problems.

In the windows updates list, just right click that particular update and select "hide update".

I also have a Synaptics Device Driver on my Aspire One with W7 SP1 x32

I just checked Windows Update and there are no updates available.

The Synaptics Device Driver on my Aspire One is 13.2.2.0 date June 2009. Sorry, I don't recall the exact date.

P.S. I never use it. Just stuck on Mouse and Keyboard

    Hello,
Have downloaded a driver but am still in a quandry. The item Synaptics Touchpad has completely disappeared from Device Manager leaving only Mouse icon. The new driver is in my Download folder but how do I get it into Device Manager ? My touchpad has now become completely erratic and try as I may I cannot seem to be aBLE TO rectify this matter. May have to visit a service dept.
