    Service Pack 1 won't install.....

Every time I go to run the windows upgrade program and I begin installing it on my laptop I get to a point it comes up with a screen warning that my laptop is low on power, even thought its at full power and plugged into the ac, and won't let me go on any further. Does anyone out there have experience in this problem and know how to get it to work. I want to keep windows up to date and this is stoppping me at the present moment.

go to control panel - power options
and see if it is on the power saver setting.
If it is adjust it to balanced.
If you have a software power management that came with the laptop kill it before trying to install.

Whether you choose Power Saver, Balanced, or High Performance you willl have no problem installing the service pack, UNLESS, your battery is low to start with. If your battery is low or defective, simply remove the battery.

Of course, connect your powersupply to the mains (wall outlet) and to your computer.

To help us, please complete your System Specs:

using Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and SIW to gather info, fill in the blanks.
Do me a favor and add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.
Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

The Win 7 SP1 should be obtained from the Microsoft site. Another person gave your the link.

What anti-virus software are your using?

Most important is to fill out those system specs.

    Thanks,

    Second time lucky

I tried finding a setting for balanced power settings but on this Compaq Laptop I didn't see a setting that said that, so I tried all them listed (including the one labeled HP Recommended) and that didn't work, but I just logged back onto the forums and saw the tip on removing the battery and that seems to work. It is sitting in the background downloading past the point it stopped before. The battery seems to charge ok and store power but when you say it can be faulty or damaged, is there something in the battery (a circuit or something) that indicateds its power level that could be the problem that even at full power it wont register it.
