I cannot install certain windows updates and IE9

Hello,

My problem is that my current install of Windows 7 Professional 64bit (SP1) is partially corrupted. I cannot install certain windows updates and IE9, I have already done days of searching for answers with the errors I'm getting but it appears the only solution is to simply repair install or clean install.

When I originally attempted the repair install (following the guide on this forum) I ran into the exact same problem as the first poster,

I have followed what was said in this thread, by slipstreaming SP1 into a new Windows 7 Pro disc which the process was successful, I now have a new DVD of Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1. Unfortunately when I tried this new disc, I ran into the "exact" same error! apparently this version of Windows is newer than my slipstreamed SP1 disc!

I have completely ran out of ideas now, at the moment it looks like ill have no choice but to do a clean install which I have of course been avoiding. I really hope someone here can give me some advice to solve my problem of trying to do a repair install with this error message.

Ta for moving the thread Brink!

The first thread doesn't make much sense now of course so ill just re-write some things here to make this problem more clearer.

Running Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit, (Student).

I have a problem installing certain windows updates, specifically;

Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 64bit - Error Details: Code C355
Security Update (KB2446710) - Error Details: Code 80070BC9
Security Update (KB2478662) - Error Details: Code 80070BC9
Security Update (KB2538243) - Error Details: Code 643

From scowering these forums and the internet it seems to be something to do with my installation of windows, the built in .NET is corrupt, or something on the lines of that and the apparently the only way to solve this is to repair install. I have already done a bunch of fixes found here, such as Windows Update Reset, so far with no success.

If anyone can help with these errors that would be fantastic! But if the only way to solve this is a repair install I am happy with that, which that would bring me to explaining in more detail on what my first post is about.

I have attempted a repair install (following the guide here) which failed because it said the version of windows is newer on my PC. So, I slipstreamed SP1 into a new copy of my Windows 7 disc (also from a guide here) and that also failed with the same error, apparently my windows is still newer

Evening, unfortunate to be pushy but does anyone have any idea at all on either of my problems? The state the computer is in is very frustrating and i'm thinking of giving up and doing a clean install

I gave up in the end, done a clean install but used my new slipstreamed SP1 disc which sped up the process atleast.

May aswell close this thread now, thanks for reading!
