    Constant Updates

    I'm creating this forum cause, well, I am curiously frustrated.

    I should have paid closer attention to my update history. I incorrectly stated that some of my updates were failing, actually every single update this week, since the 28th, have been successful. Its just in the past I generally wouldn't get but 1 or 2 updates every two weeks.

    I am just wondering if I am the only one getting spammed with updates this week. I currently have another update pending for a security update from .Net Framework. After looking at my history this update actually has a good chance of failing as almost every update from .Net Framework does.

    * Have you checked in Event Viewer ?
    Start - Event Viewer - Windows Logs - System & Application.
    Check for any red error messages to do with this problem.

    *What is listed { as regards your problem} in Windows Update - View Update History?

    *Clean out App data / local / temp.
    Start - Run - type in %temp% - ok - organize - select all - organize - delete { note you may be asked to skip some - that is ok}

    Re your update settings -
    * I suggest you change them to notify you but let you choose when to download them.
    * Do a few at a time only rather than "oodles" at once.

    * Always make sure you have a current system restore point prior to downloading anything.

    * Sometimes in order to get updates to install properly, you may need to do them manually.

    Hello sp4rtan and welcome to Seven Forums.

    Are you sure you're getting "spammed" with updates? Microsoft traditionally follows a set schedule for releasing updates. Patch Tuesday (the 2nd Tuesday of every month) is the usual patch release date. Sometimes there is an extraordinary Patch Tuesday, 14 days after the regular Patch Tuesday which was the case on June 28, 2011. And finally, Microsft can release patches, hotfixes, etc at any time they deem necessary which are called out-of-band updates.

    As a side note, back in September 2007, and supposedly continuing to this day, Microsoft began what many have called "stealth updates"; patching files on Windows XP and Vista without users’ knowledge, even when the users have turned off auto-updates.

    It doesn't sound like you're getting spammed. It sounds like you're getting the updates Microsoft deems necessary. You're free to install them, or not. And I would echo JMH's advice to update only a few at a time. Less likely to break your computer, and easier to figure out which update was the problem if something does break.
